Catherine Clarissa Howarde, better known as Kate Howarde, was born on 28 July 1864 to parents Edward George Jones and Harriett Hannah in England before migrating to New Zealand as a child. Howarde was a notable actor, playwright, producer and director. She was best known for her play Possum Paddock in 1919. The talented Howarde also played a part in numerous roles as playwright in over 10 plays from 1914-1938.
